This article reviews the urban imaginaries of Sincelejo city between 1912 and 1950. The study is framed within the cultural history approach, uses social representations and a view where culture is understood as a scenario of antagonistic relations of power and territoriality. The results were organized along three lines: the first, the recovery of the condition of departmental capital in the administrative structure of the Colombian nation; the second, the integration of the city within a road circuit that articulated the economies of the Colombian territory and finally an image of modernity that allowed its recognition in the context of the capitalist market promoted by the nation state on its territory.
