ROMERO ANTURI, Luis Eduardo; NORVEY ZAMBRANO, Jhon e ESPINOSA BLANCO, Nelson Eduardo. Shooting distance and its interpretation against the conduct of hostilities in the Colombian armed conflict. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.13, pp.291-320. ISSN 1900-6586.
The aim is to evaluate the method of physical observation of macroscopic residues for determining the possible shooting distance for Galil AR rifle caliber 5.56 mm and their respective ammunition, in order to clarify and improve the interpretation of forensic concepts against investigations of police and military in the context of the Colombian armed conflict. The applied descriptive design is observational. Using an assault rifle and ammunition 5.56mm Galil AR Indumil of equal caliber, series of test shots with pieces of fabric with an impact area, with ranges are made from contact up to 2.5 meters and the presence of gunshot residue is verified on the substrate with the method of physical observation by a medical examiner with extensive experience and a ballistics expert. It is found that the distance ranges described by the literature are not correlated with those obtained in practice, further, that the method of physical observation is dependent on experience and level of knowledge of the expert, being fallible, which can lead to errors in the interpretation of autopsy findings on the possible shooting distance. Inadequate preparation and interpretation of the findings by forensic experts and operators can take judicial decision improperly and sometimes unfair. When the existence of GSR is determined, you must perform an analysis contextualized within the conduct of hostilities and not jump to the conclusion about human rights violations or violations of IHL
