MESA GARCIA, Sandra Cecilia. Measurement and evaluation of six urban sustainability criteria (physical aspect) in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Rev. Ciudades Estados Política [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.3, pp.15-36. Epub 21-Jun-2022. ISSN 2462-9103.
The research proposes a methodology for measuring and evaluating six criteria of urban sustainability and physical appearance (morphology) as a valid approach for determining the quality of urban development applied to an intermediate Colombian city: Bucaramanga.
It is strategic to have as an objective the measurement through sustainability indicators, to determine particularized and different environmental problems, possibly, in the national or Latin American spheres, focusing on sustainability and urban form (physical-morphological aspect). In this sense, the indicators can analyze the qualities of the urban landscape based on its morphological elements, the configuration of the spaces of the city. The theoretical foundation is based on scientific instruments. It is about creating a systemic and methodological product, a table of criteria (scale, accessibility, connectivity, density, diversity, and nodality), segments, units, and evaluation references that can be applied in different urban landscapes and serve as an analysis matrix to understand urban fabrics or structures. Sixteen samples of urban fabrics were analyzed. According to the measurement and evaluation of data, four met sustainability criteria, ten barely met them, and two did not meet any criteria, which leaves a clear picture of urban sustainability regarding the physical-morphological aspect in Bucaramanga.
