The bacteriological quality of the water of the Jaboque (Bogotá, Colombia) wetland during two contrasting seasons. Caldasia [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.2, pp.323-329. Water is the most widely used natural resource in the world and pollution has become the main mean of transport for pathogenic microorganisms. Bogotá possess 13 wetlands, the Jaboque wetland that is approximately 148.51 hectares, is located in the town of Engativá. We evaluated the bacteriological water quality of Jaboque wetland through the Total coliforms, Escherichia coli and Enterococcus spp. Also studied Aeromonas, Pseudomonas and Clostridium in the dry season and rainy season in 2010. We used the technique of membrane filtration and microorganisms were identified with BBL Crystal rapid tests. This resulted in significantly higher counts of total coliforms UFC/100mL and Enterococcus spp. with similar behavior in the dry season and rainy season, while Escherichia coli UFC/100mL increased during the rainy season. The genera Pseudomonas and Clostridium UFC/100mL showed the presence of a significantly higher count in the dry season and rainy season and increase the UFC/100mL and the genus Aeromonas UFC/100mL increase in the rainy season. The results were compared with a previous study conducted in 2005 and it was possible to determine that the bacteriological quality of the water improved due to the interventions performed in the wetland.
