MENDOZA, Alfredo Pelayo Calatayud et al. Impact of Internet Access on Household’s Income in the Department of Puno, Peru. Lect. Econ. [online]. 2023, n.99, pp.175-207. Epub July 25, 2024. ISSN 0120-2596. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.le.n99a352419.
The aim of this article is estimating the impact of mobile internet access on economic income during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2021 in the department of Puno, quasi-experimental methods were applied: Propensity Score Matching (PSM) and reweighting for causal effects: balance of entropy (EE), two sources of information were used: data from the Residential Survey of Telecommunications Services with a sample of 906 observations and primary data, from a survey based on the perception of women dedicated to textile crafts and clothing with a sample of 262 observations. The results with the PSM method show that the economic income of heads of household with access to mobile internet was higher by 45.6 %, in relation to the hypothetical situation in which they have not accessed the internet (p < 0, 05). Likewise, close to 17 % of women textile artisans with access to mobile internet perceived that their economic income had improved than if they had not accessed the internet (p < 0.05). When applying the EE method, the results were not significant.
