MORALES VALERA, Rosa María  and  SIFONTES, Domingo Alberto. Las patentes como resultado de la cooperación en l+D en américa latina: Hechos y desafíos. Investig. desarro. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.1, pp.22-38. ISSN 0121-3261.

Abstract In order to increase innovation, links between R&D actors are needed. Cooperation between inventors is a common link. To study international R&D cooperation, 2082 patents are analyzed. The countries in the sample include Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru, Chile and Venezuela. The period of study goes from 1990 to 2006. The source of information is the United States Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO) . Results show that for total patents granted by the USPTO during the period of study, 53.94% are co-inventions. This percentage shrinks to 2.20% if one takes into account only the co-inventions with international cooperation. Mexican inventions have the highest number of foreign co-inventors.

Keywords : Patents; R & D Cooperation; Latin America.
