Abstract

MONTOYA RESTREPO, Iván  and  LEON MEDINA, Eidy Constanza. Cycles of competition and their application in organisations. Innovar [online]. 2004, vol.14, n.24, pp.9-27. ISSN 0121-5051.

New challenges facing companies and organisations means that they must adapt themselves and be continuously developing in an environment in which technology and knowledge figure as the keystone for their evolution and development. According to Hamel (2000), we have left the era of progress and passed on to the era of revolution, discontinuous change, re-evaluated business concepts, recognition of a non-lineal world and at the same time problems being resolved in non-lineal situations. New patterns appear within such a context as a result of modern company evolution, founded on managing knowledge. This document depicts the notion of cycles of competition being generated and some approaches for applying it to organisations. Some elements of systems’ theory are thus briefly of given as are approaches to organisations’ needs.

Keywords : Competition; strategy; system theory; organisational learning.
