Abstract
APPEL URUBURU, Venus Alma; QUIROZ ACOSTA, Liseth Andrea and NOGUERA ORTEGA, Daniel Alejandro. Application of the Famacha © method in two types of goat farming in Popayán (Cauca, Colombia). Rev. Med. Vet. [online]. 2017, n.35, pp.45-52. ISSN 0122-9354. https://doi.org/10.19052/mv.4388.
Goat farming in Colombia is a developing productive sector; thus, it is important to evaluate and implement strategies to control parasitosis, one of the main problems in this type of exploitation. The present study aimed to compare the application of the Famacha® method in order to control parasites in two systems of goat exploitation. This method was applied to ten goats in a stall fed and a semi-stall fed farming system, and parasite load, hematocrit, Famacha® score, and number of deworming treatments were monthly evaluated for six months. The two goat exploitation systems had the same degree of parasitic infection and no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) were found regarding hematocrit, egg count per gram of feces, Famacha® score, and number of deworming treatments during the study period.
