Abstract

DOMINGUEZ TORRES, Mario Alberto. The Contrasting Images of the Conquest and the Colony in the Tratado del descubrimiento de las Indias (1589), by Juan Suárez de Peralta. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.2, pp.235-254. ISSN 2256-5450.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v18n2.58816.

The interest of this work is to show how the Tratado del descubrimiento de las Indias (Treatise on the Discovery of the Indies, 1589), by Juan Suárez de Peralta (1537-1598), is fundamental to understand the changes arising between the Conquest and the Colony and how Suárez de Peralta uses Martín Cortés in the treatise as a metonymical subject to explain the transition from one period to another.

Keywords : Juan Suárez de Peralta; Tratado del descubrimiento de las Indias; Martín Cortés; Conquest; Colony.
