Abstract
FELITTI, Karina and IRRAZABAL, Gabriela. The Unborn and the Women Who Gestated Them: Meanings, Political Practices and Rituals in Buenos Aires. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2018, n.64, pp.125-137. ISSN 0123-885X. https://doi.org/10.7440/res64.2018.10.
This study analyzes the meanings of the unborn for women whose pregnancies have been interrupted (either by abortion or miscarriage) in two different contexts: a women’s circle devoted to New Era Spirituality and a case of evidence-based activism. Based on an interpretative paradigm and qualitative methods, the article suggests that women bond with the unborn by including them in notion of social production and granting them a legal or symbolic recognition. That approach does not rule out an activism which calls for the legalization of abortion and women’s autonomous right to decisions about maternity.
