Objective:
The objective of the study was to identify nursing interventions to diagnose foul odor from malignant wounds.
Methods:
An integrative review of the literature in the MEDLINE, CINAHL, LILACS and Cochrane databases resulted in the selection of 48 scientific articles on the subject.
Results:
Based on the empirical evidence found in the articles included in the study, 24 nursing interventions were developed to control and reduce foul odor from malignant wounds.
Conclusions:
The nursing interventions outlined in the study make it possible to improve the quality of life for patients in palliative care who have malignant wounds. A subsequent suggestion to the International Council of Nurses is that these interventions be clinically validated so they can be inserted into the subset of the International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP) concerning palliative care for a dignified death.
