Abstract
ZULUAGA-DIAZ, Juan Carlos and JARAMILLO-MARIN, Jefferson. Normative guidelines and forms of rationality in Afro-descendant social mobility in Tuluá, Colombia. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2020, n.40, pp.28-50. ISSN 1657-6357. https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i40.7790.
The aim of the article is to reflect on some normative guidelines and forms of rationality in processes of social mobility of people of African descent living in Tuluá, Colombia. On a methodological level, we used previous results of an exploratory study on representations of social mobility and its relation to objective factors in migrants of African descent and their descendants in this city. This previous study was developed in 2013 with a biographical approach. As part of the results it was found that the normative and cultural criteria, constituted as guidelines of orientation of value, are sometimes consistent and in other contrasting between the studied groups. The main conclusion is that normative standards have an important role, both as a guide and as a prescriptive one, whether or not they are perceived as ideals that facilitate mobility processes and legitimate forms of social advancement for Afro-migrants and their descendants in Tuluá, Colombia.
