Abstract Te authors explore the issue of female headships in a group of women who were displaced by violence and came to live in distressed neighborhoods in Soacha municipality, Colombia. Tere, challenges like low schooling, underpaid jobs, afective issues, and the burden of having to account by themselves for their households worsen their condition of poverty. In this context, female headship is a role they have to take on so that they can face poverty by acting responsibly towards their children and loved ones.
