Abstract

CHAPARRO PACHECO, Ricardo. "Those Were the Mistakes Why We Did so Many Things Wrong." An approach to the Sense of Responsibility in the Confessions of Former Low-Ranking Commanders of the Paramilitary in Colombia. Trab. soc. [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.2, pp.57-88.  Epub June 28, 2024. ISSN 2256-5493.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ts.v25n2.108066.

What is the sense of responsibility for the perpetration of political violence in the confessional narratives of former lower-ranking paramilitary commanders in Colombia? Looking at responsibility as ability-to-respond, this question is addressed in qualitative research including content analysis of depositions by former members of the Putumayo Southern Bloc, demobilized in 2006. These depositions present a reiterative condemn of the barbarism perpetrated, though it is unable to question the personal support for the violence of the paramilitary ideology, posing challenges to the psychosocial assistance of excombatants and the research on topics of memory and transitional justice.

Keywords : Colombia; historical memory; perpetrators; paramilitarism; responsibility; transitional justice.
